What About Bob? has got to be one of my all time favourite movies. If you haven't seen it, or its been a long time, you should watch it. There are so many humourous moments....such a treasure.
Bob is completely paralysed by fear, one of those being sailing. But, because he has formed a friendly relationship with his doctor's family (wife and kids), he takes a chance, steps out with courage and decides to give it a try. He trusts Anna (the daughter) enough to take him sailing. For a split second you find yourself proud of Bob for facing his fears. You hear him cheering (yelling, screaming) for the whole world to hear, "I'm sailing, I'm sailing, Ahoy!" All the while, Bob is securely fastened (he's all tied up) to the boat.
Okay so you have to see it!
Well, I certainly am no stranger to fear. I do not like anything fast that I may not have complete control over, ie. downhill skiing or boarding, sledding (on a steep hill) , biking (also down a steep hil). Maybe its not the fast pace I fear maybe it's just hills...lol
There are other fears that I have to face head-on. They require complete and pure faith in God. I am stepping out fully and trying so hard not to remain 'securely fastened' to what is comfortable and what is known.
I often wonder how much blessing we miss out on or side-step because we are too afraid to trust God. We do not have the faith to step out fully and freely.
