A Chapter Opens and a Chapter Closes

Yesterday I got to hold a brand new baby. He was only a few hours old and I couldn't wait to get to the hospital to see him.

I am a sucker for babies, especially newborns. I love how they feel and smell, the noises they make and their wrinkly skin. I could sit and hold a baby for a long time and when mine were babies I did a lot of that.

Usually when I am holding a baby close I have moments of "aw...I want one too..." then my better judgement kicks in and I am okay again. BUT NOT THIS TIME. For the first time I was able to hold and appreciate and enjoy someone else's baby without melting inside. Nothing was stirred within me. Nothing within me wanted to re-visit that stage.

So, as this chapter begins in their lives, full of excitement and anticipation I rejoice with them. At the very same time I am closing that chapter in my own life. My baby is 31/2 years now. All of our baby 'stuff' is gone, we don't even have a baby-proofed house anymore.

I am not missing it, not one little bit. It's time for me to turn the page and move on to the next chapter.

I wish I was ready to get to that chapter!

Was it Brad and Steph's baby?

Good for you. It is always hard to move on I find, but refreshing at the same time.
