While picking up supplies for Joel's birthday party, my cell phone rang. I expected it was Steve, and it was, but I never would have expected what he called to tell me.
We had just received an email from a friend in Ontario. She was informing us of the tragedy that struck two days ago. I had heard about it on the news but really only half listened. I was busy doing something and vaguely heard about a fatal bear attack in Northern Ontario.
As it turns out, Steve and I worked closely, everyday with the mother/mother-in-law of the victims. I have met, and heard lots about this beautiful, intelligent, inspirational young lady who was attacked and killed. I am completely stunned and feel so horribly sad for "R" and her family. So sad, I am sick to my stomach.
"R" we love you and so glad to have been able to work alongside you for almost 5 years. we are so terribly sorry for this horrific experience you and your family are facing. Be assured of our thoughts and prayers.
You can read the story here and here.

Its been unreal and awful but we have spent the last two days crying and hugging and just trying to get our heads around it. If we are all havint this hard a time I cannot imagine what they are going through. Wishing you and Steve were here - I'm sure you are as upset as we are and this is when we all need to be together to process, cry etc.
Hugs to you both.
xoxo

Heather,
wish we were there too. Thanks so much for thinking about us enough to send us the news, we really appreciate it! Send out extra hugs from us please.
I am so sorry to hear about this, her family is in our thoughts and prayers.
How devasting for all of you! Thinking of her family and her husband and keeping them in my prayers!
I read this in the paper and was saddened obviously - but to have a connection to the grieiving family makes it so much more real and awful.
We will be praying for all involved.
