Achieving a Goal -- Highlight #1

I said I would share some pictures depicting highlights of my life. Here goes...

This is a picture of my friend and I after just finishing a 5K run. In case you can't tell, I am the one with the bad hair and big goofy grin (give me a break I just finished a run).

At this point in time we both agreed that we were 'challenged' in the athletic department. We wanted to do something about it so we signed up at the Running Room for a 10 week "Learn to Run" clinic. At the end of the ten weeks of training we would run a 5K. This may seem like no biggie to you, but to me, it was like a marathon.

We had a great time meeting each week and even bought matching suits (same size different colours). Finally it was time for the big run. As you can see in the picture, I am holding my number. I didn't have time to pin it on because I was late!!

Being late wasn't my fault but it was rather funny and made the run all the more memorable. Friend and I understood the start time to be a half hour later than it actually was. Still don't know how, but we did. I was early (or so I thought) cause I wanted to meet and run with her. She was super early. As my family and I were driving along trying to find a place to park, we noticed this huge pack of runners going down the road in the opposite direction. Steve looks at me and says, "uh...is that your group, 'cause they've already started?" Can you say FREAK OUT!! At first I thought it had to be another group, but how could it be? Steve pulled over, I hopped out of the car and dodged 4 lanes of traffic to get to the other side where they were running. Meeting me on the other side was friend's husband yelling, "Leslie, they left without you...GO GO GO you can catch up...RUN!!" So I did. I ran like there was no tomorrow. Eventually I managed to pass lots of people. As I approached the half-way mark, my friend was that much further past it. We saw each other from across the road and couldn't help but laugh. I didn't cross over to meet her, I ran the full run and finished in great time.

There is nothing like the feeling you get when you achieve a goal that you set for yourself. It was incredible.

Now that was a day to remember and a definite highlight of my life!

(miss you friend)
