For Every Knot there is a Reason

Geez...this past weekend was busy. We went to the hockey meet & greet and felt quite out of place but managed okay. We realized (with no turning back now) that there is a lot more to playing hockey than playing hockey!!! Throughout the meeting they were discussing all of the jobs that needed to be done and the $5000.00 budget that they needed to raise. They were all experienced in the hockey culture and several couples had up to 3 kids in hockey!! The tournaments, the out of town trips, the hoodies, the fundraisers, the social engagements, the money, $$$$, money. One parent suggested we all just throw in $100 then and there to start the cash flow. I started having cold sweats thinking OMGosh, OMGosh, OMGosh....

Turns out, Joel wasn't having a game on Sunday, just drills and lessons which is cool. He won't have any games until January. Still, we really appreciated Peter and Amanda picking Joel up, taking him to his practice and bringing him to church to meet us.

I'm not sure how we will get through this season, but I know we will. I also know, that this season will probably start and end his career.

Once you see him out there playing and how much he truly enjoys it you will forget about all of that other stuff...he had a great time just learning the drills and waving at us in the stands..he was quite proud of himself! It was the highlight of my weekend! I can't wait to be a 'hockey mom!

Don't make any decisions until the season is over. Money is a factor but it should never be the only deciding factor. Where there is a will, there is a way. And people to help (like me!)

my son plays triple A hockey, i'm not even going to scare you with how much it costs us a season, but, it has taught him things we could never have, and i'm not talking about just hockey.

Bav...I wish I was phoning mom...they emailed us with the remaining jobs. Check it out: Team Manager, Fundraising Coordinator, and Social Coordinator!!!!

BSTS, thanks for not scaring me. At the meeting they were saying that our kids had a good 16 years of league hockey ahead of them...yikes!

Coming form someone who has been through the whole Hockey life, at times letting it define who I was, The biggest thing as a hockey parent is support. Countless Sundays my father would step down from the platform and drive me to hockey, then rush back for the benediction, and I will always cherish the support they gave me in all of my passions. Faithfully they showed love and God filled in the gaps, can't play hockey really anymore, but I know both God's love and that of parent.

either way I know it will all work out.
Maybe i can head out to Calgary and start up a SAJHL, Saturday morning. Now that would be incredible.

oh and give Julia a birthday hug, and tell her "Matt says a big happy birthday".

Thanks Matt, I will do that. Her birthday is in November but she is thinking about it all the time. She told me she "Misses them (you & super) so much!"
