Words of Wisdom

I've been reading, Charlotte's Web with Jacob this week. I have never read it before and haven't even seen the movie so its all new to me.

What a gem!

Tonight as we were reading, I received a little kick in the conscience. charlotte (the spider) was talking to Wilbur (the pig) about man and the way we get on...

"They (people) don't catch anything. They just keep trotting back and forth across the bridge thinking there is something better on the other side. If they'd hang head-down at the top of the thing and wait quietly, maybe something good would come along. But no-with men it's rush, rush, rush, every minute. I'm glad I'm a sedantary spider"

patience. slow down. wait for something good to come to you and recognize a good thing when you see/have it. stop searching for 'something greater'.

She goes on to tell Wilbur in an attempt to help protect and save his life, "never hurry and never worry".

Imagine what life would be like if we could get that straight..'.never hurry and never worry'?

I've never read Charlotte's Web either. I don't know how that one slipped through our fingers when I was raising you guys. Is your copy from the library or does it belong to one of the kids? If it's yours, I just might have to read it on my next visit!

I read Charlotte's Web in Grade 3...actually our teacher read it to us. At one point she was crying and had to stop reading and ask a student to read for her. I'm guessing that you haven't reached the sad part of the book yet. :)

One of my favorite books! I totally remember reading it in grade 3 as well...we had a spider's web up in our class all year!

"never hurry and never worry." i could use a piece of that.

I told my mom yesterday that i wanted to name my daughter (in like, 10 years of course! haha) Charlotte. And she brought up the name-issue of Charlotte's Web. I hadn't heard of that book in years, and here's 2 references in such a short span.

Small things amuse me.

My librarian read it to my class. Perhaps it was in grade three as well, I don't know. I think I had read it already but I still loved it. It's one of the MANY books (including the Ramona books of course) that I will have to make sure my niece and nephew read (and perhaps my own children too...once the time comes)
