There is just something about life out here that never gets tiring...the mountains. So majestic and mysterious, just incredible.
We had the privilege of living in Bermuda for three years. During that time the scenery never became old or boring. We were in awe everytime we stepped outside. The pink sand beaches and sea green water, lush greenery and a colourful array of flowers all year long. Completely fascinating.
Now we feel privileged to live in western Canada where we can see the mountains in the near distance as we drive around our city. They just never get 'ordinary' for me. As we drive to the mountains, it is almost paralyzing to be surrounded by such beauty.
After only one hour of driving we were in Kananaskis. The retreat format was personal which we very much appreciated. On Wednesday we decided to go for a winter walk. We met up with a group of others who had the same idea. We had our map and our camera and were on our way to the viewpoint trail. The seven of us were having such an enjoyable time appreciating the peace and the view that we just kept going and going, taking unmarked trails, following a mosaic of tracks in the snow. Pretty soon our walk turned into a hike which turned into mountain climbing. Oh yes, the snowfall became thicker, the path narrower, the incline steeper, the breathing heavier and the conversation quieter. Glorious!
On one particular path, all of the animal tracks ceased except for very large (and fresh) paw prints. After a good study of the prints and a reference to animal tracks in the Rockies, we discovered they were cougar (mountain lion) tracks. We turned around.
By the time blisters started to form we thought it best to head back down the mountain. When we reached the more open paths we saw the sign that said the paths that we were just on, should not be used in the winter due to avalanches. Whew! We made it back without being burried alive or eaten by cougars.
That night we soaked in the hot tub outside. Some would get out, make a snow-angel and jump back in. I didn't feel the need to do that.
It was a great few days and I feel rested.
I stand in awe of the Creator and am compelled to worship.

Beautiful.
wow!
I really miss the mountains now that I'm gone. Growing up there, I think I "took advantage" of how beautiful it is. Never again...
