Integrity. Raw honesty and humility. We all know that these are important characteristics of any healthy relationship. The problem is, it is much easier to talk about their necessity than to actually exercise them. Think about it, to have our thoughts and motives exposed is a frightening thing because we know they are rarely pure.
While we may seem respectable on all levels of our character, scratch the surface and you would expose a mess of selfishness and pride. Being seen for who we really are would be shameful and therefore we become masters of disguise.
Many long to be known and understood but continue to cover true feelings. Sometimes smiley faces are masking sad hearts, and then we wonder why we feel so alone and misunderstood.
If you want to be known, you have to become knowable. That's honesty, that's relationship.

you have to take a chance of being hurt or rejected by showing too much of yourself, but there's also that chance that someone may actually grow to understand you and appreciate you for who you are. i think people are more afraid to show who they really are because of the risk of being hurt.
