Weekend Update

It is now officially March break. Thursday was the last day of school and that night we put out blankets and pillows on the family room floor and rented Chicken Little. Friday we had parent-teacher interviews which weren't very exciting. Having kids in school is a whole different kettle of fish in the parenting department. Challenges. Lots of challenges. From my experience, parenting doesn't get easier as kids get older.

Friday afternoon I took Rocky and the kids to the park. Another horrific mess, but at least there was fresh air and exercise. Last evening the kids had their final swim lesson. I was hoping that after 5 times in the same class, Julia might pass. No such luck. She still will not put her whole face in the water. It is amazing how one bad experience can have that effect on you. Hopefully next time. When the kids went to sleep, I sat down with 3 cookbooks and marked every recipe that I wanted to try soon from each of them. I am going to try to be more effecient in my grocery shopping and menu planning.

Today, the boys and Steve went snow shoeing with a group from SM. They spent the day in Kananaskis and came home pretty tired and hungry.

Julia and I were quite busy too. It was family craft day at Michaels.
We headed there first thing this morning (well they didn't open 'till 10am but that is first thing on a Saturday right?). Julia was able to make 4 crafts and participate in a scavenger hunt. Fun! We then went to Wal-Mart to find a solution to beat the Springtime mess! Oh yes, I will not be defeated!

We had just enough time to get to the community centre for ballet. Julia is not supposed to miss any classes now because they are working on their choreography for the big show in June. I was a bit surprised to find out it is being held at the Epcor Centre for Performing Arts. Tickets go on sale on May 1st through ticket master. We would love to have friends come with us so if you are interested let me know!

While she was in ballet, I sat down in the coffee shop with my cookbooks, marked from last night and made my grocery list (why didn't I think of this before?). After ballet, we ran a few more errands including groceries and made it home just before the boys. I then had to put groceries away, make dinner and clean up the mounds of dishes and mess all at the same time. I wanted to take a picture of the mess (for Lori who doesn't believe how messy my house can be) but Steve had the camera.

I tried 3 new menu items from my list. Hamburger soup (sounds worse than it is), with poppy seed salad and baked bananas for dessert. The soup was accepted by 95% of the family, the salad 40% and the baked bananas about 5% (sounds better than it is). Gotta keep trying new things.

Now it is time to get more work done before bed.

Hope you all had a great day!

we had our march break a week ago and march break gets easier as the kids get old, but you are right, parenting an adult child is a challenge, i've got one in university and can't believe how much work she is and she's not even living at home right now.

WOW!!! You did have a busy wekend! I love trying new recips. What I would love even more is an unlimited grocery budget so I could buy whatever I wanted without worrying about waste if the recipe flops!

Oh Leslie! How I miss you.

Michael's is one of my favourite stores. Did you know that you can get some of the same scrapbooking supplies at the Dollar Store by the Garden Market across from Deer Valley as Michael's etc... It's wonderful, same supplies, a quarter of the price.
