When the boys came home from school yesterday afternoon they were pretty excited to have a long weekend. We had movie passes (thanks to general mills cereal) that were only good Mon-Thurs. So we decided to treat them to dinner and a movie. We went to see Ice Age 2. It was okay, not near as good as the first one or as good as I had expected it would be but the sloth is so entertaining!
It ended up being a late night for all of us. We had to get up early this morning to set up for our good Friday worship gathering. Our community spent one hour together this morning to reflect on the crucifixion of Jesus mainly through images and the written word. We served commmunion which proved to be very meanigful. Then, people were invited to take a huge nail/spike and pound it into a block of wood. As they did, the sound of the thud resonated throughout the room and reminded us of the pain and sacrifice Christ endured for us.
As soon as we were done we headed to the zoo for their easter event. I had forgotten to bring comfortable shoes. After walking around for 3 hours in my chunky heels every joint, bone and muscle in my legs were aching. I can hardly move now.
The day was absolutely beautiful and Steve and Julia both ended up with a sunburn. Cadburys sponsored the event and they were giving out creme eggs left, right and center! Oh happy day!! The easter bunny was there and he gave out creme eggs. Every activity station was giving out creme eggs and whenever we passed an open box, we kind of just helped ourselves to handfuls of them. Don't worry, I asked first. They had a simple scavenger hunt and when Jacob brought his finished sheet they told him to hold out his hands and they loaded him down with more creme eggs. When we got home I emptied the contents of our bag and was able to fill a canister, how fun!
We didn't get home until 5:30 pm. I felt so bad for Rocky who was cooped up all day long. He needed to go for a walk but I knew with all his pent up energy a walk at my speed, with my poor aching legs, wouldn't suffice. So, for the first time, I took him to the off-leash while Steve made supper and the kids played outside. It was so much fun and such great exercise, we'll be sure to make it a regular visit. He loved the freedom to explore and to run with other dogs while I got to walk at my own pace.
After supper the kids put out their easter baskets to be filled with goodies while they sleep. Sundays are so busy for us that we always do easter on the Saturday between good Friday and Easter Sunday. Jacob felt it necessary to label each one so I wouldn't forget whos was whos! We don't do the easter bunny in this house and they don't get much but it is still more than enough. When I'm ready (after coffee and breakfast) I hide plastic eggs with jelly beans. This year I think I'll do it outside. I think I might wait and fill the baskets later in the day tomorrow. I really need a sleep-in tomorrow and if they wake up to goody baskets, I'm sure they will eat the entire contents.
I need to put my feet up and chill to a movie before sleep.
Happy Easter Friends!
