Something to Talk About

The police were at my house today. I can just imagine what the neighbours must have thought, having the police cruiser in my drive way.

Yesterday there was a man lurking around my neighbours backyard, watching her kids playing. He was there for quite some time and was right up at their fence. Our daughter wanted to go over and play with her kids. Before letting her go, we noticed him and wouldn't let her out. He was suspicious and we should have acted sooner by taking a picture or calling and asking if she knew the man hanging around her yard. Thankfully, her son informed her he was there and moments later she called them in. The man left. Slowly. Looking back at least three times. No one knew we saw anything.

Later that day I talked to her about it. They had called the police but couldn't remember full details on his description. We could, and had to fill out a report today. Thus, a visit from the police.

He may have been harmless but you can't be too safe these days. You really can't trust anyone. It was very unsettling because we let our kids play out there all the time.

It is often very hard to know what to do and how to parent. Do you give your kids some freedom and responsibility by allowing them out of their own yard, putting them at risk of potential predators? or, keep them cooped up but safe?

There is just far too much crap happening and far too many pervs and sickos out there. You can never be too safe. Hard call.
