Busy weekend. My neighbour and I talked early in the summer about doing a yard sale together. When I finished vacation, we set a date for the sale. I made flyers and had Jacob deliver them around the cul-de-sac, inviting everyone else to join us, knowing that when it comes to yard sales, the more you have, the better the crowds (they didn't take us up on the offer).
After I agreed to do a sale, I was a little worried that I didn't have enough to sell. After all, we recently moved and got rid of scads of stuff then. I was amazed at how much I was able to gather! Jacob was shocked, not only with the amount I gathered, but how much I was asking. He thought his $15 bike was worth at least $50 (and so on!)
Last night my neighbour and I went out on the town, dodging traffic and risking our lives to put signs around all the major & minor intersections (it was quite the scene)! We were gone so long that Steve thought we went out for coffee. Nah, just wanted to make sure everyone could find us. Paid off though, We had steady crowds from 8:30-4:30 in the hot hot sun...ouch! Couldn't have done it without Steve and all his help with the kids (it also happened to be a sleepover weekend at our house with one of the boy's friends), making coffee for the neighbours and me, helping with sales, and all the other gazillion things he did (not to mention receive a wicked sunburn).
All in all a fun and productive day, cleaned us right out with very little left...just what I was hoping for!
Some thoughts as I reflect on the day....
Most people want everything for nothing, not recognizing a good deal when they see it.
People prefer junk items over the good stuff.
Girls clothing is a big seller!
Cheap barterers are annoying!
You have to decide which items you are firm on the price before you start or you will lose out.
I am disappointed with myself for letting some things go for way less than asking price, but I guess I can't complain for bringing in just under $500 (ah, just in time for the hockey season)!

Congratulations...I hope that tent trailer in the background isn't for sale!
No no, but a few did ask!
$500!!! That's wonderful! Congrats on such a successful garage sale!
Our bigest yard sale was in Calgary also! We had just onder $500 too:)
People have told me yard sales are much more productive out west... I guess they are right!
Miss you!
