I said goodbye to my family after a great visit and headed back yesterday. The three hour time difference is taking a toll but I'll get it right soon enough.
There is nothing like the fresh ocean air of Atlantic Canada, mmmm....love it, miss it.
It was hard to say good-bye to my grandmother, I will miss her and it will feel weird not to visit her when I'm home. I spent quite a bit of time in her home reminiscing, looking at photos and all of her belongings that have been apart of her, her home and my up bringing.
I had to open the card cupboard and smell the very distinct fragance that has been there forever, as well as the closet where she always kept her Bridge mixture that smelled the same too, and of course her antique vanity table where I would sit for hours as a child going through her make-up and perfume and play witht the three way mirrors. I loved that thing so much that she actually willed it to me. The drawers still smell the way they did 30 years ago.

Today is the last day of summer break. It was very hot and sunny so I took the kids to the splash park for the afternoon. They are having a hard time sleeping now, they are quite excited. I still can't believe my baby is going off to school!!

I'm glad that you had a great time while you were home. It's wonderful that you got to spend some time just being in her space. Smells are an amazing thing as are sounds. I find occassionally I will hear something and I have to pause and just listen as it is so reminisant of my grandparents. The upstairs of our farmhouse on a hot summer day smelled just like theirs did.
How special that you get to have her vanity, something that meant so much to you.
