Wednesday night I had my second pottery class. Let me just tell you, it is not even close to being as easy as it looks!! The first night I was a little frustrated thinking I was never going to get it. I thought I would come away with all horrible pieces worthy for the trash. The instructor sat at the wheel and went over each step to make a cylinder. He made it look so easy. Then I sat at the wheel. It was somewhat of a disaster. After most people threw off three cylinders I worked all night just to get one. What was supposed to look like a mug ended up like a bowl—no, a dish. A lop-sided cat or candy dish it will be.
This week I gained some hope and had a great time. I really started to get a feel for it even though I still have a lot more to work on, further to go. There are a few techniques that I just can’t get but I ended up with a bowl and two cylinders. Not as tall as I would have liked, but definitely cylinders. GIDDY-UP! (that was for you Lisa!). Can’t wait ‘till next week!
