But What About the Rainbow?

Jacob is very keen and I have caught him reading the paper every day at breakfast. He likes to read the headlines and look at the pictures and ask a lot of questions. The other day while the three of them were eating cereal at the breakfast counter Jacob read out loud the front page headline, "PRAY FOR TEXAS." After he read it he asked, why does it say that mom? Why should we pray for Texas? I then told him about hurricane Rita that was on its way, reminding them of the devastation of Katrina. "Well what's a hurricane?" Joel pipes in, "do you mean a flood?" "No, a hurricane." "A tornado?" "No, a hurricane, a giant storm that can be very dangerous, like Katrina...remember?" "Oh yeah, he responded..a flood."

Joel, feeling very proud for having a solution yet confused at what was going on he said, "What about the rainbow?" "Don't you remember that God put a rainbow in the sky to tell us there woud be no more floods?" Good point. "Joel, God promised to never destroy the entire world with a flood again. These are only small parts of the entire world, but great job for remembering that."

Before I could say anything else he was off and running.
