Keep your frills and charge me less...

Sometimes the 'extras' or 'frills' are worth paying for, most times they are not.

For instance, there are two types of grocery stores; the budget- food in boxes-bag your own-pay for the cart-struggle the load to save a few bucks kind and then the more convenient; wide variety-food on the shelves-free carts-friendly staff who bag your groceries, talk to you instead of read their magazines AND carry your groceries to your car AND pack them in there while you get kids in seat belts kind. Those are perks I am willing to pay for.

BUT...

When it comes to oral health, I do NOT need a hot, moist towel to wipe my face with, free disposable toothbrushes in the bathroom to freshen up with, a fresh pot of coffee in the waiting room and a PS2 for the kids to play with. Sheesh! Dentists and Orthodontists....keep all your goodies and cut me some slack on the bills! Sure we have a percentage covered, but it certainly isn't 100%.

(we have been making frequent ortho appts with jacob who is getting an appliance fitted for his mouth to correct the thumb-sucking habit and damage. a temporary thing until braces come further down the road).

My nerves! Unbelievable. I guess they figured they needed to keep up with the times. Our dentist has televisions in every cubicle. It is crazy.

So what does a thumb sucking device cost these days anyway? We have no dental coverage and are in the midst of orthodontics with Daniel to widen his pallet, and Sam is a huge thumb sucker and we would like to have it dealt with as his teeth are very much "out there"
Our orthodontist has no fancy art on the walls only scrapbook paper in nice frames done in neat arrangements on the walls.....

I like the fact that my dentist in Calgary has movies "in the ceiling" for me to watch. Because I am very anxious at the dentist, it really helps to have something else to concentrate on. I do however understand the feeling of not needing "all" of the perks. I think it's horrible that dental coverage isn't better. Oral health is extremely important and I have had to neglect mine a bit since my coverage has diminished.

It's great that you have some coverage. My plan is awful and doesn't have any coverage for orthodontics!!! I hope Patrick grows up with good teeth!

I'm def a no frills kind a girl! I'm the one who goes to the grocery store that you have to pay $0.25 for a cart, has no selection, and has lines a mile long...all that just to save on the food bill. So I could def care less about destist office perks.

our dentist is like that too. i have to admit, my daughter orthodonist actually has his prices quite a bit cheaper, he shows us what he could be charging and then what he actually charges. her braces were still $7000, of which the dental plan is only going to cover $2000, but could have been a whole lot more.

You have to deposit $0.25 in the cart to release it from the rest of the carts Puremood. If you return the cart, you get your money back.

trinity13, some places require the use of a loonie.

yes, thanks for clarifying that, I haven't had a chance to check the blog lately! The Rev is right, here it is a loonie. Even though you get it back, it sure is a pain when you can't find a loonie. We usually keep one in the van but sometimes we need it...

Right, I have to remember to keep a quarter in the car at all times!
