Goody, Goody, Gumdrops

The other night I had gumdrops on the brain and eventually developed a craving for them. This is unusual, even for me. Some of you will know that I have a very prominent sweet tooth and I adore candy. However, I am not a fan of gumdrops, jujubes or jelly beans.

So, I've been trying to figure out why I would want gumdrops instead of something good, like chocolate or gobstoppers or lovehearts or sweetarts. Then it dawned on me, one of the new books we got at the thrift store this week was Candy Land and I have been reading it all week long. The kids and I have been pouring over it, admiring the colourful pages, the lollipop forest, gingerbread plum trees and gumdrop mountains! We all agree those gumdrop mountains look delightful, enough to make me want gumdrops.

While picking up milk on my way home today, I passed by the candy aisle and there they were, hanging on the peg board, waiting to come home with me! I grabbed a bag (a little one) and was on my way. I enjoyed every gooey morsel (of the few that I indulged in) and even shared with the kids.

Now the question goes out, "what on earth does the A.B. stand for on the bag?" It is buggin' me. Anyone? I can't even guess anything good other than, "After Breakfast Gumdrops" you know, like "after dinner mints."

I have no clue what it would stand for! And I haven't had a gum drop since I was a kid...maybe my son will start asking for them soon since he got Candy Land for Cmas.

I love gum drops! I think A.B. meaning could certainly be "after breakfast"! that or the AB stands for "abs" and they are actually GOOD for you! A stretch I know, but whatever work!

Is it possible that the AB stands for Alberta?

I wrote a company and received an answer.

A. B. Stands for "Assorted Baking".
