Look on the Bright Side

In the quiet moments before sleep, I was lying down with Joel on the bottom bunk with Jacob above us. Our conversation went from one thing to another, to eventually death.

Joel, in a shakey voice says, "Mom, if daddy got killed and you were sick, that would be really bad. I couldn't get you to the hospital 'cause I can't drive."

Jacob pipes in, "Then she would die too and we would have no parents."

Joel became a little emotional at the thoughts of it, but Jacob lightened the mood for him by continuing with, "then we could pee on the walls because we'd be free."

nice.

Oh my gosh that is so sad...and funny at the same time! Leave it to a kid to look at it that way. My kids get very upset if we talk about death. But my daughter says, "I believe in God mommy so I will see you in heaven...but it would still be bad and I would be very sad without you" and much wailing ensues. Garret can't wrap his head around heaven so he is especially sad when he thinks about me, or the hubby, or his CAT dying. Must be on a lot of kids' minds lately...we had a chat about death the other night. Minus the peeing on the walls thing. Thank heavens!

ya, that was totally Jacob's way of getting out of the conversation and not having to think about the possibility.

Sometimes it the "tucking in" conversations that we have with our kids that are the most profound of the day.

Your kids might enjoy the silly animal photos that are on my "Freaks of Nature" blog.
