Family Day

Today is/was a holiday in Alberta. It is Family Day, a day set aside for just that, to spend with your family. Because of the flu, we've been experiencing cabin fever. When we got up this mornng, we decided to get out of the house and take a drive to Banff. Although a decision like that always costs more money than you would think, it was worth it.

On the way there the kids were pretty quiet looking for deer and enjoying the scenery. Out of nowhere Jacob asks, "When I grow up will I be a pastor?" We went on to tell him not necessarily, it depends on what you want to do and what you educate yourself to do. And, even more than that it depends on what you feel God is telling you to do. "Oh" he said, "I thought that because I was a PK that I would automatically be one too." No.

Joel joined in and said, "when I grow up I hope God tells me to be a worker man at Let's Play" .

When we got to Banff, we headed to the hot springs right away. The air was so cold and water so hot that the steam was so thick you couldn't see very far in front of you. It was a wee bit crowded (everyone had the same idea) so it was pretty much shoulder to shoulder. Steve was sitting next to an older gentleman and could feel the heat of this mans stare. He wouldn't stop staring at Steve until finally he asked, "what do you know about heaven?" Steve answered him and the man went on to ask "do you want to go there someday." "Do you know the sinners prayer?" He engaged the man in conversation until Joel rescued him.
Steve
(clothed in tattoos, piercings and a super long chinny) either gets asked for a joint or someone tries to 'save' him.

After the hot springs we explored an area we never knew about before. A historic site where the original spring was found, Cave and Basin.

And of course, you cannot go to Banff and NOT go to the candy store, sheesh! Oh, and the fudge store..... I had very unhealthy levels of sugar today.

It was good. Very good indeed. I love Family Day!

What a wonderful idea! Why don't other provinces designate a Family Day holiday? I don't think there's another province in the country that does. Someone correct me if I am mistaken.

I had yesterday off as well for President's Day. But unfortunately, my husband did not...so the boy and I had a fun day together just relaxing.

I bet Steve blew that man away with his knowledge of God and Heaven. As for the kids - it's good to teach them that they have their own path in life too. I have been to the Cave and Basin before too. It was so cool! I could actually touch the top of the caves....haha!
