Jacob is learning about healthy eating at school. He came home the other day and told me all about bagels (which he loves) and how many calories were in them. He told me a full bagel was the same as 3 slices of toast and we should only eat 1/2 of a bagel and not a whole one!
This morning while getting backpacks ready to go, I told the boys I got them a little treat for their snack. They happened to be on sale so I decided I would buy them the froot loop Yogo treats! I thought that they would be super excited about this treat and welcome the change from apples & carrot sticks.
However, when I told them about the treat, Jacob (who happens to be rail thin) lifts his head up and asks,
"How many calories are in them?"
I was a little shocked...'huh?" was all I could mutter.
"Because if they have more than 32 calories, I'm not eating them!"
He went searching in his bag to read how many calories were in the treat and released a huge sigh of relief (he has a sweet tooth just like me) .
"oh good", he said, "only 18 calories!"

The other day a girl was getting after me because I chose to have Smarties instead of M&Ms. Apparently Smarties have more calories. Oy.
Oh my...I hope my son never learns about calories! :-)
