Our immediate neighbourhood has been shaken in the past two weeks. Last week a women was found dead in her home around the corner from us. She was killed by her husband. Sad.
Two nights ago, a family was out walking, on the side walk, when an SUV drove over the curb killing the young mother and seriously injuring two others. One of which was a teenage boy in a wheelchair. The little girl who was not seriously harmed is 8. The age of my son. She goes to school with my kids and is in the classroom next to Joel. Now, because of an irresponsible adult, she has no mother. Just in an instant, gone.
It was up the street from where I live, in a low speed limit, suburban neighbourhood filled with young kids out and about all the time, including mine.
It makes me irate that people can be so careless. They believe alcohol was a factor. How is it that people think it is okay to drive after drinking? After all the stories like this, the education, the fines, what is the matter with people? I am just screaming inside.
My kids are consumed with thoughts and questions and feelings for which I am doing my best to answer.
Needless to say, the whole ordeal has put a strange feeling in the air that we breathe at home, at school and in our neighbourhood.
Heavy.

WOW! This is terribly sad. Crazy how a moment of carelessness can change someones life forever.
