Courting or Married?

Yesterday I was caused to think about my relationship with Christ. I read that you cannot legally use the name of Jesus unless you are married (fully committed) to him.

2For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband as long as he is alive, but if her husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.
4So, my brothers, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God. ~Romans 7

17But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit ~ 1 Corinthians 6

I really had to think about this with total, raw honesty. Am I in a courtship or marriage. Do I like to "go on dates" with him, but when "the date" is over go about my own interest? Doing things my own way. Do I want all of him, his favour and benefits without giving Him all of myself?

I often wonder if God would view our relationship in the same light that I do. I wonder if he would agree with me that I am sold out to him. I wonder if I see it as a marriage and he is shaking his head saying, "you're crazy, it's time for another date?"

Hey,

There's a great little book that I'm reading now about that. Well sort of, it's about whether we are dating the church. It's by Joshua Harris. You can pick it up at Amazon, very easy read.
