Last night we had some friends over for a yummy steak dinner and a game of cards. Joel also had a friend over for a sleepover, and a neighbor's child was here at one point too. It was loud and chaotic--normal for us.
I was pretty eager to play Rook, a game my grandparents still play regularly, a game they taught me to play many years ago and a game that holds many memories of conversation and laughter around Nan's kitchen table. It is also a game that is extremely hard to find, especially in Canada.
I haven't played Rook in years, haven't even seen it. Once the cards get sticky or one gets lost you're pretty much doomed as they are a rare find.
A few weeks back I was looking in a baby consignment shop with a friend expecting her first. I was taken with all the cute baby stuff which landed me over to the toys and games section. I love to rummage through second hand shops to see what treasures I can find. That days was a jackpot for me when I noticed the little red box on the shelf that said Rook! Woohoo! I grabbed it in a hurry and only paid $2.
Haven't played it since we got it, needing more people to play and being rusty on our skills. Last night was the night to dig it out and revisit the fun. Now I'm hooked, and can't wait to play again.
Good times!
